Ok so lot of people keep asking these days – how to enable 5g in Airtel? Specially after Airtel started rolling out 5G services in many cities. If you already using Airtel SIM, chances are your phone might already support it, but some users still don’t see 5G showing up on their mobile. Don’t worry, I’ll explain it in easy way (not technical lecture, just straight steps).
First thing first – make sure your phone actually supports 5G. Many latest phones from brands like Samsung, iPhone, OnePlus etc already have 5G support. But if your device is older, then no matter what setting you do, 5G won’t come. So check in your phone specs.
Second – your SIM card. Good news is that Airtel said their existing 4G SIMs are already 5G ready. So you don’t need to run to Airtel store for new SIM. Just use the same one you already have.
Now coming to actual enabling part. On most phones, you can just go to Settings → Mobile Network → Preferred Network Type and select 5G/4G/3G/2G (Auto). Different phones may write it slightly different like “5G only” or “5G/LTE” but main idea is same – you need to keep 5G enabled option.
After this, if you are in an area where Airtel has launched 5G, your phone should automatically latch on to 5G network. Sometimes it may take restart of phone, so better to switch off and on again.
One more thing people forget is software update. Some phones needed update to support 5G bands in India. So check if your phone has pending software update and install it. Without that, 5G may not show even if hardware supports it.
Also, remember Airtel 5G is still rolling out city by city. So if you live in small town and not seeing 5G option, it might simply be not launched yet in your area. In that case nothing wrong with your phone or SIM, you just have to wait.
Speed wise, 5G is way faster than 4G. You will notice better video streaming, downloads and even gaming feels smoother. But of course, battery drains a bit quicker on 5G, so keep that in mind.
So quick recap:
-
Check your phone supports 5G.
-
Make sure SIM is Airtel 4G (works for 5G too).
-
Go to network settings and select 5G.
-
Update your phone software if needed.
-
Restart device and check coverage in your area.
That’s all. Enabling 5G in Airtel is not rocket science, just few clicks in settings. Once you do it, and if network is live in your city, you’re good to go.
